Reality TV fans have taken to Twitter to share their frustration that Kyle Sandilands is a judge on the Australian Idol reboot.

During the January 30 premiere, the radio shock jock “made fun of” numerous young contestants who auditioned for the show, which viewers felt was “nasty” and “straight up rude”.

Viewers watching for a bit of “nostalgia” were shocked by how vicious the judges were toward singers just trying their best, with many not remembering Australian Idol being so “cruel“.

And look, the judges were actually pretty horrible to contestants in the OG version, too. There were numerous instances of fat-shaming, misogyny, racism and other problematic comments from different judges, including Kyle.

But it’s been years since Australian Idol originally went off the air, and fans are now questioning whether the show had to return with the same “bullying” undertones.

Australian Idol’s Twitter urges fans to show respect, and yeah, it’s just as hypocritical as it sounds

Fans also called out the hypocrisy of Australian Idol’s social media asking people to “respect” the singers when they went out of their way to show the judges “bullying” young performers.

Others complained that Kyle wasn’t the only “mean” judge of the season, with many claiming that Harry Connick Jr was equally as “cruel”.

On Australian Idol‘s Twitter, producers urged fans to “respect the artists who are giving it their all on our show. They are human.”

Yeah, the judges did NOT get that memo

Well, let’s see how long this show lasts!
