As we prepare ourselves for another chaotic year of Married at First Sight, we can’t help but wonder what became of the show’s original relationship expert Dr Trisha Stratford.

The clinical psychologist said goodbye to the reality show in September 2020 after seven seasons of asking contestants if they’ve “been intimate yet”.

Trisha had starred alongside experts Mel Schilling and John Aiken since the dating series kicked off way back in 2015.

Dr Trisha Stratford announced she was quitting Married at First Sight

Viewers were shocked when Trisha announced in 2020 that she would not be returning as the show’s relationship expert.

“After seven seasons of Married At First Sight I have decided to step back from the television series to focus on my writing, research and neuro psychotherapy,” she explained in a statement at the time.

“I’ve been involved right from the beginning in the challenge of bringing this social experiment to television.”

She continued, “The program provides a platform for an ongoing conversation on relationships and I wish the program continued success and hope future participants find everlasting love.”

Trisha was replaced by sexologist Alessandra Rampolla in 2021 for the show’s eighth season.

However, Trisha later revealed why she REALLY left the hit show.

In a spicy interview with Woman’s Day, the psychologist said she was left feeling “sick” over the toxic direction the show had headed.

“I felt in my guts that this wasn’t what I’d want to be watching at home on TV,” she admitted.

“By the end, I couldn’t compromise my professional and personal standards because there were participants on the show who I felt shouldn’t have been there.”

What is Dr Trisha Stratford doing since leaving Married at First Sight?

Far away from the wine-slinging chaos of MAFS, Trisha has relocated to New Zealand to be with her beau, Roger, whom she’s been dating since February 2018.

“Roger picked up the phone and invited me out for coffee,” she told Woman’s Day of their first date.

“He jumped on a plane to Sydney, we had the coffee and the rest, as they say, is history!”

She added that being with the Auckland-based businessman felt “natural”, adding, “We had such energy.”

It seems the feeling’s mutual for Roger, who gushed, “Trisha has total openness. There are no blocks, which I’ve never experienced in a relationship before.” Too cute!
