Abbie Chatfield has hit out at Melbourne Cup Carnival goers on Instagram, questioning why they still attend the controversial event.

Horse racing has remained a divisive sport, with many forgoing related events due to the “cruel” conditions the horses’ experience.

On October 30, the 27-year-old took to her Instagram Story to criticise those who still attend racing functions such as Derby Day and Melbourne Cup.

“Guys, I thought we were done with the races,” Abbie said in one clip. “I thought that wasn’t a thing anymore. Like, why are so many people going to the races?

“What the hell?”

In a second slide, The Masked Singer Australia panellist said she’d received “snarky comments” over her previous Story from people asking her if she’d even been invited to the Melbourne Cup celebrations.

It was then Abbie revealed that not only did she cop an invite, but she was offered “a lot of money” to attend.

“Yeah, I was offered money to go, a lot of money. I said, ‘f*ck the races’.”

This stance isn’t shocking from the Bachelor breakout star, who posted in 2019 about her “issues” with horse racing.

“My issues lie with animal cruelty and the detrimental affects [sic] of gambling,” she penned at the time.

“I guarantee that I will never attend another racing event as I have in past years, and I promise to not support this industry in any way.

“It’s possible to have fun without injuring innocent animals.”

In the years since, Abbie has also shared her disdain for the event, last year having shared a post by designer and artist Rachael Sarra that read: “It’s a neigh from me.”

Despite her strict opposition to the sport, Abbie did not publicly call out any event attendees individually, including her ex-boyfriend Konrad Bien-Stephen and close friends Khanh Ong and Simone Holtznagel.

Other Celebrities Have Called Out the Melbourne Cup Carnival In Recent Days

Joining in Abbie’s sentiment that horse racing is a yuge no-go, ex-Bachelorette Brooke Blurton also slammed the event. Albeit a little more subtly.

Taking to her own Story, the incoming The Challenge Australia contestant took a sly jab at stars at the Cup.

“Hope everyone is having a wholesome, self loving [sic] weekend,” Brooke penned.

“Except those who abuse animals,” she added.

Brooke’s subtle shade comes after she also attended the Spring Carnival festivities in Melbourne last year, making an appearance at Oak’s Day.

Whilst the former Bachelorette has not yet attended any racing meets this year, she has liked a number of posts shared by her friends attending various racing meets.
