X Factor Australia‘s Johnny Ruffo has vowed to stay alive until he sees his brother at Christmastime this year, after he revealed his brain cancer battle is terminal.

On August 29, the 34-year-old singer confirmed he had been diagnosed with “terminal cancer”, explaining: “At some point, it will get me, but I’ll still be fighting, still kicking on.”

Now, Johnny has told 7News that his one wish is to make it to the holidays to see his brother, Michael, who has been living abroad for several years.

Johnny told The Project’s Carrie Bickmore he felt he was “already winning” because the average life expectancy for his type of cancer was three years, and “now it has been five years”.

However, Johnny admitted he often became emotional when thinking about what it would be like for his partner Tahnee when he passed.

He continued: “It’s something that I don’t want to think about. It just gets me a little bit emotional about it because I know at some point something will happen, whether it’s a month from now or ten years from now or 20 years.”

Johnny then turned to the camera to say “thank you” to Tahnee for “everything she has done”.
