Married at First Sight Australia 2022 was so damn scandalous that furious viewers have launched complaints with the Australian TV watchdog.
The Herald Sun reported that the Australian Commercial Media Authority received a total of 40 viewer complaints about the experiment’s spicy ninth series.
Despite the explosive scandals that unfolded throughout the series, the number of complaints was actually down from the 2021 instalment’s total of 67. Yikes!
In a statement, the ACMA divulged: “Most of the contacts referred to allegations of inappropriate sexual content or treatment of participants.”
What Does the ACMA Do About MAFS Viewer Complaints?
Given the volume of criticism levelled against Married at First Sight this year, it is expected that the TV watchdog will take action.
The ACMA has referred the complaints to Channel Nine, the channel on which MAFS is aired.
The Nine Network has 60 days to respond to the objections. If those who lodged the complaints do not get a response — or aren’t satisfied with the reply — they can then refer it back to the regulatory body.
What MAFS Content Are Viewers Complaining About?
Whilst the ACMA has not divulged exactly what viewers have been complaining about, there were several salacious incidents that occurred on MAFS this past season.
Notably, the glass smashing incident and ensuing drama led to a barrage of public hate levelled against participant Olivia Frazer.
Following the scandal, Olivia accessed nude photos from bride Domenica Calarco‘s OnlyFans account and distributed them amongst the cast.
Both of these aforementioned incidents are being investigated by police.
There were also suggestions that certain participants exhibited gaslighting and manipulative behaviour towards their expert-appointed partners.
More to come…
