2021 could not get any more random with the news that SAS Australia recruit, Sam Burgess, is appearing in a film with Russell Crowe.

While we already revealed that they were good mates on episode 104 of the So Dramatic! with Megan Pustetto podcast, now Sam is calling a favour and expanding his repertoire.

TBF, we had zero idea that the 32-year-old could act, wanted to act or even had aspirations to try and act, so this is an oddly pleasant… surprise?!.

According to Woman’s Day, Sam is looking to “kickstart his career in movies” and what better way to do that than with the man himself. When you’ve got friends in high places…amirite?

Apparently the footy player is off to Thailand this week and is set to play opposite the Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky — which truly feels like an absolute WTAF moment.

How Does Sam Burgess Know Russell Crowe?

Sam was playing football in England when he was scouted by the Aussie actor to join his beloved South Sydney Rabbitohs team, which the Gladiator actor has co-owned since 2006.

The pair formed a very close bond and Rusty eventually lured Sam’s entire family, including his three brothers, over to Australia to play for the team.

Russell is said to be like a father figure to the former Rabbitohs captain. In a club statement after he retired from the NRL, Sam made a special mention to the Gladiator actor.

He said: “To Russell – for making all this happen initially – I’ll be forever indebted to you. Your passion is infectious.”

No doubt Rusty has been cheering on Sam while he competes on SAS Australia and we frankly, cannot WAIT to see his film debut!!
