From casting shake-ups and a “fresh take” on the show to rigorous new vetting measures, the next instalment is looking like it’s going to be another wild ride.

Here’s everything we know about Married at First Sight 2026 so far…

NSW Police investigation into MAFS dropped as Nine makes major changes to the show

NSW Police previously launched an investigation into MAFS Australia after 2025 star Paul Antoine punched a wall during filming.

However, as reported by Sky News, the matter has since been privately resolved, and MAFS producers have since promised a “fresh take” on the show’s format.

Nine has also reportedly taken a clear directive for the next season, which is to “go hard on challenging the participants” while “keeping the drama out of the courtroom”.

Sky News also revealed that the network has implemented stricter background checks, psychological screening and guidelines to avoid further police scandals.

“Safe Work was also heavily involved in reviewing the show’s future, and Channel Nine has taken their recommendations very seriously,” an insider explained. “They want compelling TV but not at the expense of cast wellbeing or legal risk.”

Inside Married at First Sight‘s strict new vetting process

Whilst Nine is keen on delivering an entertaining season of MAFS, one source revealed some of the “tough new vetting rules” when it comes to the cast.

“No criminal records. No previous court appearances. If there’s even a whiff of controversy in someone’s past, they’re out,” one source told Daily Mail Australia.

“They’re not playing it safe in terms of personalities. They still want big characters and explosive storylines. But they can’t afford another scandal like last time. So they’re walking a tightrope.”

Married at First Sight 2026 faces casting changes

Speaking to Sky News, production insiders have confirmed that the show will shift away from “influencer types” and towards “everyday Australians” who are looking for love, rather than a blue tick. Sure, Jan.

“There’s a lot less slicked-back hair and neck tattoos and a lot more relatability,” one casting source dished. “This cast feels real, and that’s a big part of what we’re aiming for in 2026.”

The source added that it was a struggle “getting the matches right”.

“We struggled a bit locking in the last few grooms,” they said. “We had some really strong women and didn’t want to lose them.”

However, the cast isn’t the only thing set to change, with another insider spilling that the new season is copping a total makeover.

“Every year we hear it’ll have a new vibe,” the source said. “But this time, the cast, the experts, even the tone. It actually feels different.”

It comes after sources told Daily Mail that the show was struggling to find a cast, with some potential participants backing out and others failing background checks.

Who are the Married at First Sight Australia experts?

As confirmed by Sky News, relationship experts Alessandra Rampolla, John Aiken and Mel Schilling are returning to the show, and they’re all “excited to be reuniting”.
