The Block 2024‘s Jesse Maguire and Paige Beechey have hit back at host Scott Cam‘s “distasteful” comments about the current cast.
Hot on the tail of the engaged couple’s premature exit from the landmark 20th season, Scott confessed the newest batch of Blockheads are “less resilient” than in the past.
“The contestants are less resilient than they were 20 years ago, 15 years ago,” he told news.com.au. “There’s more expectation of it getting easier, but it’s not. It gets harder… And people aren’t ready for how hard it is.”

However, Jesse and Paige don’t agree with the long-time host’s sentiment, noting that in 2024, the contestants are expected to do a lot more than when the show first launched.
“A lot of people didn’t like what Scott said. A lot of people did not like that,” Paige told Yahoo Lifestyle.
“I think that was very distasteful.”
“It’s different now. We’re 20 years through, and the show’s changed,” Jesse added.
“We probably don’t do as much building as 15, 20 years ago because you can’t. You have consultations every single day.”

The duo also shed light on how the teams are made to “run around to sponsors 10 hours a day” while filming.
Plus, unlike past seasons’ inner Melbourne suburb locations, the Phillip Island location makes it difficult to attend consults.
“This year was a lot of driving, like you’re on the road for eight to 10 hours a day,” Jesse said.

“That’s a big part of The Block this year, and a lot of people don’t actually realise that.”
Jesse and Paige’s condemnation of Scott’s comments follow confirmation that the couple will return to The Block 2024 in the latter half of the season.
