Lucinda Light and Timothy Smith were both married years before appearing on Married at First Sight Australia 2024.
The marriage experiment wants us to believe that its participants are totally hopeless in love. So naturally, we were shocked to learn that the show’s resident “Mum and Dad” had tied the knot in previous relationships.
And it wasn’t mentioned during the 11th season at all!

As reported in episode 366 of the So Dramatic! podcast, a couple of inside sources spilled all about Lucinda and Timothy’s past marriages.
“[Timothy] got married when he was 19 to an East-Indian woman,” one insider said, revealing they met in Vancouver Canada, before she moved to Queensland to be with him.
“She was homesick and wanted to go back to Canada to be with her family as her parents were elderly, but Timothy couldn’t go unless they were married. So they eloped.
“They got married at a registry office in Nambour, Queensland.”
How long was Married at First Sight‘s Timothy Smith with his first wife?
Clarifying that Timothy and his wife were “in a legit relationship”, the source said they’d “been together for about two years already and didn’t just marry to get a visa”.
“After that, they moved to Canada, stayed together for seven years, and then divorced,” they continued. “It ended because of cultural differences.
“It just became difficult as her family didn’t approve of Tim and wanted her to be with an Indian man, and she did remarry to an Indian man who she now has kids with.”
In wholesome news, Timothy and his ex-wife are “still on good terms, talk regularly and are good friends to this day”.
However, he didn’t reveal to his own parents that he was married until “about two years later”.
“His mum was really hurt.” Understandably!
So Dramatic! also obtained several snaps from Timothy’s wedding, as well as the TV groom with his ex-partner.
As Lucinda would say, what a pair of spunks!
Lucinda Light got ‘married’ at Burning Man
Meanwhile, So Dramatic! obtained some Facebook pics of Lucinda‘s wedding at the Burning Man festival in 2016.
She shared a bunch of photos with her partner Matt in full wedding attire, in which she sported a white dress complete with a veil and bouquet.
Lucinda’s iconic father Michael, also shared the post and captioned it: “My amazing daughter Lucinda and her partner Matt at Burning Man, Nevada.”
Her mother then commented that she was “enjoying the wedding snaps”.
However, a source close to Lucinda explained that the ceremony was not a “legal marriage” but more of a “commitment thing”.
Sounds like she was just preparing for all the MAFS had to offer, Commitment Ceremonies and all!
