It’s been revealed what really happened between Married at First Sight Australia 2024‘s Stephen Stewart and Michael Felix after the hairdresser scandal.

ICYMI: Michael Felix blew up at his bae after he was seemingly busted “flirting” with their hairdresser at a publicity shoot for the show.

Stephen (who is also a hairdresser) then confessed he felt more of a “spark” with the hairdresser in “30 seconds” than he had in the weeks he’d been with Michael.

It’s since been revealed in episode 361 of the So Dramatic! podcast that the so-called “cheating scandal” was blown WAY out of proportion.

One production insider said Stephen and the hairdresser got talking because they had several mutual friends in the industry.

“Stephen didn’t hide it from Michael at all,” they explained. “He told him he was talking to him on the way home because there was nothing to it and even booked Michael a haircut with him.

“That was the extent of their chat.”

The source added: “He didn’t cheat. It just made him realise how little chemistry and connection he had with Michael.

“It was an eye-opening realisation for him, that’s all.”

Married at First Sight‘s Stephen Stewart’s hairdresser ‘cheating scandal’ blew up because producers had ‘no storyline’

The insider noted that Stephen’s flirtation with the hairdresser was amped up because his storyline with Michael was otherwise boring.

“They turned it into a big cheating scandal because they had no storyline for them and needed to explain why they didn’t work out,” the insider said.

“Stephen was very open about having no connection or chemistry with Michael from the second he laid eyes on him. He is super chill, and Michael is very high-energy.”

The source said the duo “had nothing in common… aside from one day both wanting kids”.

“Stephen told the experts before he went on the show that he doesn’t find feminine guys attractive,” they continued.

“But he didn’t want to hurt Michael’s feelings. He tried to be as respectful and honest as possible about it.

“They are still on good terms and speak regularly. There’s no hard feelings or bad blood.”

Stephen Stewart thought Michael Felix was ‘being theatrical for the camera’ on Married at First Sight

According to one participant, Michael was “apparently super hurt by the hairdresser thing”.

However, “Stephen mentioned that he had time to go to the room and change his top to a Housewives meme because he knew it was going to be a big moment for them.”

The MAFS star added, “As soon as the camera was there, he got sassy and angry, but as soon as they left, he texted Stephen, saying he wanted to lighten the mood and was sending him funny videos.

“That’s why Stephen was so mad when they had their chat because he felt like he was just being theatrical for the camera.

“But in reality, he didn’t actually care at all and already knew they had no future.”

Stephen Stewart wanted to leave MAFS after his fight with Michael Felix

Many MAFS fans criticised Stephen for not leaving the show following his fight with Michael.

However, one insider has revealed that he tried to do just that, only to be told by producers “that they couldn’t leave until the next Commitment Ceremony and had to finish the week out for the storyline”.

“They told them that if they left early, it wouldn’t make sense for the viewers,” they recalled.

“The whole hairdresser thing was completely set up to manufacture a storyline to explain why they left the experiment.”

As such, Stephen and Michael leave the show at the Commitment Ceremony that follows the Couples Retreat.

“Poor Stephen got a bit stitched up and made out to be the bad guy.”
