Married at First Sight Australia 2024‘s “oldest-ever groom” Richard Sauerman, 62, is bringing his wisdom to the show and if last year was anything to go by, we know his co-stars could use a lil’ guidance.
As reported by Yahoo! Lifestyle, producers scouted the Sydney-based star because they didn’t want “another cast full of young wannabe influencers” and we’re diggin’ the diversity!

Sources say South African-born Richard has a “very big personality” and we can see this very clearly in the show’s trailer.
“I’m not everyone’s cup of tea,” Richard quipped as he stood at the alter. “But f*ck them, I drink coffee anyway.” And we love him already!
According to insiders, the motivational speaker will be bringing wisdom and confidence to the train wreck marriage experiment, whilst learning how to rediscover love. Aww!

A production insider told So Dramatic! that Richard was well-loved by all of his cast mates.
“Richard is amazing… He has big boomer energy and wholesome dad vibes,” they gushed. “He’s nice, honest and true to himself but he can be a little bit boisterous and get carried away sometimes.
“He did have moments where he said some stupid things but in comparison to the other sh*t that goes down this season, it was nothing.”
Another source told So Dramatic! that Richard is a straight-shooter.
“He has strong opinions and can sometimes come across as brash,” they said. “He’s loud and calls it like he sees it, but he doesn’t mean to hurt people.
“Some people hate him because they find him too confronting, but he’s all about giving people tough love to help them improve themselves.” And we know his co-stars are gonna need this energy!

After growing up in Cape Town, Richard lived in London and Bangkok. However, Sydney has been his home for the last 35 years.
Alongside working as a motivational speaker, the new groom is also an advertising expert known as “The Brand Guy“.
With over 35 years of experience, he’s worked with some of the most impressive agencies in the industry. Per his LinkedIn, he’s been ranked in the Global Top 30 Brand Gurus since 2015 and is currently ranked ninth. Phew!
According to his website, he also co-runs Brandcraft, a brand strategy, design and communication agency.
He’s also published a book called Are You Living Your Résumé or Your Eulogy?
Sources tell So Dramatic! he also did three years of national service in South Africa in his younger years. And is there anything he can’t do?
Why did Richard join Married at First Sight?
According to our sources, Richard and his daughter, Roxy Sauerman, are huge MAFS fans and have watched every season of the show.
One day, Roxy told her dad to sign up for the dating experiment. He applied but never thought he’d get the gig due to his age.
But lo and behold, he got the call from producers, and the rest is history!
What is Richard looking for on MAFS 2024?
According to his official bio, the father-of-three left his wife of 27 years because he no longer felt a spark. Since then, his dating life has been somewhat of a struggle.
Richard, who describes himself as young at heart, recently dated a woman 27 years younger than him. However, that fizzled out because she wanted to have children, but he wasn’t willing to compromise.
As such, the groom is enlisting the help of the experts to pair him with a woman with a “zest for life” that he has “undeniable chemistry” with.
However, sources say his relo with his on-screen wife Andrea Thompson is “anything but a walk in the park” and the pair is “anything but reserved”.
