The Bachelors Australia 2023‘s Brea Marshall has revealed why she dumped Wesley Senna Cortes during the explosive finale.
From failing to compromise to letting his stepmother say choosing Brea would be “lowering” his standards, Wesley has cemented himself as one of the most controversial leads in Bachie history.
And during the December 20 finale, Brea FINALLY stood up for herself when Wesley asked her to be his girlfriend, before brutally rejecting him.
Speaking to Refinery29, Brea explained that she ultimately decided to walk away due to Wesley’s failure to compromise.
“It’s scary to use your voice,” she admitted. “A lot of times when I’ve used my voice [in the past], I’ve been shut down. But then if I don’t use it, I’m a coward.”
The mining administrator expressed that she was willing to give things a shot had Wesley agreed to compromise.
“If he said, ‘Brea, I’ve heard you, I’m listening, I want to start compromising’… I would have thrown away the book and gone, alright, come get me,” she said. However, that’s the opposite of what happened.

During the December 18 episode, the cast had a session with matchmaker Trudy Gilbert, who dished up some hard truths to Brea and Wesley.
And this was a pivotal moment for Brea, because it led her to realise that she was “willing to compromise so much for [Wesley].”
However, she also realised she needed to start setting stricter boundaries and honouring her feelings.
“Who cares about making it look like a fairytale ending? If it’s not right, I’m not going to commit to someone on national television,” she said. And period, sis!
The Bachelors’ Brea is grateful things ended with Wesley the way they did
Despite walking away single, the 25-year-old said she was grateful that her experience unfolded the way it did because it taught her how to find her voice.
“I didn’t know what to feel in the finale after those words left my mouth and Wes ‘closed the door’.
“But I stopped and realised that I did the right thing. If I hadn’t spoken up, I could’ve been in a relationship with someone I’m not compatible with, or an unhappy relationship.
“When you start having a voice and you get the support from the people around you, you realise that it’s okay to have a voice and it’s okay to speak up.”
Whilst the pair are no longer together, Brea confirmed that they do check in on each other from time to time.
“We care for one another. We went through everything together and now we have to relive it with everyone watching.”

Even though she didn’t find a spark on the show, her love life IRL is much juicier, ‘coz she confirmed that she’s now living with her new partner!
However, this relationship has been different for her.
“I’ve taken everything I’ve learnt from the show and really tried to make sure that it wasn’t just a moment that I discovered myself and I felt empowered and then post-show, go back to my old ways,” she explained.
“I wanted to make sure that I continued down that path. I have been voicing my opinion and I have been setting my boundaries and telling people what I want. And now, there’s a guy who wants to meet me halfway.” Woohoo!
The Queensland-based reality star said she’s been taking things slow with her new man, whom she met at a cattle station, but “things are going really good”.
“He’s a cowboy and he’s just my type,” she gushed.
And the best part? Unlike her relo with Wesley, her new romance contains a LOT of compromising!
