Reynold Poernomo has revealed why he’ll never return to the MasterChef Australia franchise following his Dessert Masters 2023 loss.

After coming fourth on Masterchef Australia 2015 and placing third in the 2020 season, things took a devastating turn when the fan-favourite was crowned the runner-up on the spin-off show Dessert Masters.

And on November 30, the pastry chef told Yahoo! Lifestyle that there was “not a chance” he’d return to the series.

“I can’t just be pigeonholed the whole time on the show,” he said.

“It’s time for me to keep growing and keep moving onto bigger things. It’s not the end, it’s just the beginning.”

He also revealed his plans to take his talents to a country where they’d be appreciated.

“I might go for Michelin overseas,” he dished. “I might go into the entertainment industry overseas. But definitely somewhere in Asia or somewhere in the States.”

Reynold Poernomo says he initially TURNED DOWN Dessert Masters

Reynold also admitted that he turned down Dessert Masters multiple times.

“After giving it a couple of thoughts, I thought maybe it’s good exposure and a good chance for me to showcase what I do again,” he explained.

He also chose to star on the show because he was opening his business, Koi Dessert Bar, in Melbourne.

“Although [the store opening] is delayed until March next year, it was still a great opportunity for me to showcase my craft on Dessert Masters because it’s the biggest platform to showcase what my family and I have built.”

Despite his sadness over his loss, Reynold said he “enjoyed” his time on the show.

Tarts Anon co-founder Gareth Whitton won the first-ever season of the dessert show, taking home a jaw-dropping $100,000 cash prize.
