The Bachelors Australia 2023 lead Wesley Senna Cortes’ controversial “real” job has been revealed.
In promo content for the upcoming season of the dating show, the 32-year-old’s job title is listed as a “theologist” — prompting fans on social media to question precisely what that gig entails.
Per Yahoo! Lifestyle, theology is described as the systematic study of religious belief. It is typically taught as an academic discipline in universities and seminaries.
The outlet also revealed that Wesley’s vague title as a “theologist” is because he is affiliated with the controversial Hillsong Church.
Since moving to Australia from Brazil in 2014, the Bachie has held several positions in both Hillsong Church and Hillsong College — an institution that claims to “raise leaders” to “impact the world”.
According to Yahoo! Lifestyle, Wesley had Hillsong tagged in his social media bios before he was attached to The Bachelors.
However, he soon removed these references in July when the series began filming.

For the past four years, Wesley has worked as a Student Acquisition and Engagement Manager and a Business Lead Team for Hillsong College.
He first joined the organisation in December 2014 as a Graphic Designer at Hillsong International Leadership College before working his way through the ranks.
Hillsong Church is known to be one of the most controversial churches internationally.
An explosive documentary released in early 2023, The Secrets of Hillsong, addressed countless allegations of the church’s misconduct, including LGBTQ+ discrimination, harassment, fraud and money laundering.
