The Voice Australia 2023 finalist Ethan Beckton made a surprising blunder that fans at home failed to notice.
During the finale on October 8, the 18-year-old, who was competing for Jason Derulo‘s team, was applauded by viewers for his impressive rendition of Ed Sheeran‘s Eyes Closed.
However, many didn’t realise that he’d accidentally fumbled the lyrics, merging the first and last lines of the pre-chorus.
“I pictured this year a little bit different, I feel the lump form in my throat,” he sang.
However, the actual lyrics are: “I pictured this year a little bit different when it hit February, I step in the bar, it hit me so hard, oh, how can it be this heavy? Every song reminds me you’re gone, and I feel the lump form in my throat.”

Star coach Guy Sebastian pointed out this mistake. However, he was impressed that the 18-year-old was able to seamlessly continue his performance.
“There was one point where there was a little bit of a word thing or something happened. I saw your face and you didn’t even flinch,” Guy said. “You just moved on and that shows how much you’ve grown.
“People at home wouldn’t have even noticed that you sort of lapsed the words a little bit, so big ups to you, well done.”
Whilst Charlie Pittman from Guy’s team was tipped to win the singing show, Tarryn Stokes, led by UK singing sensation Rita Ora, pocketed $100,000 and a recording contract with Universal Music Australia.
