SAS Australia 2023’s Mahalia Murphy is no stranger to a little competition, but whilst she scores tries on the rugby field, does she have what it takes to conquer Base Camp?

The 29-year-old Rugby Union and League player has a pretty impressive sporting history. Not only has the Wallaroos player scored many-a-tries, but she’s also paved the way for Indigenous representation in sport.

During an interview with Rugby.com.au, the fullback-winger spoke about the honour of wearing the Wallaroos’ first-ever First Nations jersey.

“I get chills just thinking about it. It’s awesome to be able to represent Australia and represent our culture like this,” the athlete dished. And we love to hear it!

What else do we know about SAS Australia’s Mahalia Murphy?

Other than the Wallaroos, Mahalia also represents the Aussie 7s and the Jillaroos, so it’s clear sporting’s in her blood.

In fact, her passion for athletics was inspired by the iconic Indigenous sprinter Cathy Freeman.

“Cathy Freeman inspired me when I was younger. She is still someone I look up to because of her [community work], which is what I love to do as well,” Mahalia told Rugby.com.au.

According to the SAS star’s Instagram bio, Mahalia’s also a youth worker and girl, we’re impressed!
