My Kitchen Rules 2023 viewers have been divided after one contestant made a “gross” move while shopping in Woolworths on the show.

In a recent episode of the home cooking series, sisters Patricija and Brigita were buying ingredients for their instant restaurant when Patricija selected a bunch of shallots from the display, accidentally knocking another onto the floor.

The camera then busted her returning it back to the shelf for another customer to purchase later — a controversial move that’s had MKR fans up in arms over whether it was a grotty act.

Many defended Patricija and confessed that they also put fresh produce back on the shelf if they drop it.

“I put it back. If I damaged it beyond sellable I’d show it to the produce guy and tell him I dropped it,” one user wrote online.

Another said: “I put it back. End of story.”

However, other MKR viewers weren’t impressed.

“It’s just gross,” one said. “I know we’re supposed to wash our produce when we get it home from the supermarket, but no one does. So putting the fruit or veggies back on the shelf is just rude for other shoppers.” We’d argue that both are equally as gross if that’s the logic you’re going with…

“I usually take it to a staff member. It’s the right thing to do,” another user expressed.

This isn’t the first time a reality cooking show has been ostracised for poor health standards.

During the 2023 season of MasterChef Australia, fans called out contestants for being “unhygienic” when “scratching [their] hair or wiping [their] faces when cooking”.
