Australian Idol 2024 is headed for some major changes, with rumours swirling that the judging panel will swap out Meghan Trainor for another A-list star.

After 14 years off-air, the famous singing competition was rebooted by Channel Seven, though it received little fanfare when it hit the small screen in early 2023.

However, it’s since been confirmed for another season, with auditions set to unfold in October.

Alas, it might mean saying goodbye to singer Meghan and saying hello to a new face on the panel.

According to Yahoo! Lifestyle, the All About That Bass hitmaker is “unlikely” to return following the birth of her second son, Barry Bruce Trainor, in July.

“Although nothing is final yet, it’s unlikely Meghan will return as she’s just given birth and will have a newborn baby when the auditions start,” a source said. “Producers are willing to do anything to sign her back up and be as accommodating to her family as possible.

“But logistically it’d be difficult as the days are so long on set.”

Australian Idol judge Kyle Sandilands extends invitation to famous Australian singer

Kyle Sandilands, who has returned as a judge following his stint on the series’ OG run in the 2000s, hinted at the revamp in a recent radio interview.

Chatting to Kylie Minogue on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, Kyle proposed a potential cameo.

“I think you’d be great, even if you did just one day. But I’d take you around the country if I could,” the shock jock teased.

Yahoo! Lifestyle‘s insider added that Kyle and co-star Amy Shark will “definitely” be back. Meanwhile, Harry Connick Jr, who has an Australian tour planned for late 2023, is “likely” to return after some “re-negotiating”.

Co-hosts Ricki-Lee Coulter and Scott Tweedie have also been confirmed for the new season.

The judging panel isn’t the only Australian Idol element getting a change.

The show copped criticism last season for only allowing people aged between 15 and 28 to audition.

Channel Seven has since increased the age limit to 30, with the application noting that auditionees must fall between 15 and 30 as of October 1, 2023.
