Big Brother Australia star-turned-influencer Skye Wheatley has detailed how she was recently targeted in an online scam.

The 29-year-old took to Instagram on June 21 to reveal an anonymous scammer was pretending to be her management company in order to retrieve funds from brands.

According to Skye, the impersonator was emailing businesses she had previously worked with, asking for monetary payment.

On her Instagram Story, the mum-of-two explained how she became aware of the ordeal.

“I had a brand message me on one of my TikToks and she said, ‘Please reply to my DM’,” she recalled.

“She had sent me a screenshot of an email that had apparently come from my management email. Which it did not, and they were asking for payment.”

The email, which Skye shared with her followers, outlined five methods of payment. These included Cashapp, Apple Pay, Zelle, bank transfer and cryptocurrency.

Skye confirmed that she would “never ask for payment” from a brand before hashing out details beforehand.

“If you are emailing me to work with me, I would never ask for payment unless I have sent content for approval,” she said.

“It says payment via crypto, like what the actual f*ck, I have never done crypto.”

The influencer also added that the “funniest part” was the email signoff.

“It says ‘Best regards’. No, I sign off with ‘Kind regards’, and it’s my personal manager, which is my mum.”

Skye went on to say that she doesn’t “want anyone to be scammed”, as the rate of online fraud continues to rise.

“I don’t know how this is happening, but it’s not me and it’s not my management,” she said. “Don’t make a payment to anyone, unless you know it’s 100 per cent legit.”

Skye further detailed that her partner Lachlan Waugh was recently scammed out of a large sum of money.

“There is so much dodgy sh*t online,” she admitted. “Lachy just got scammed $500 because he was looking at a golf cart on Facebook marketplace and some dude scammed him of his money.

“Unless you are seeing something in person, I would avoid doing any kind of bank transfer. Be so careful with who you give money, the scammers are getting smarter.”

Skye revealing the scam details comes after fans speculated the couple, who share sons Forest and Bear, had broken up, thanks to a misleading YouTube video.
