Channel Seven’s “ground-breaking” new game show Million Dollar Island has hit our screens and we’ve dug up everything there is to know about the new series.

Hosted by a familiar face, former SAS Australia Chief Instructor Ant Middleton, 100 everyday Aussies will attempt to live on a remote island for the chance to win $1 million.

However, to win the jaw-dropping wad of cash, contestants have to take it from someone else and they must be willing to do whatever it takes.

But where will they draw the line? Will they lose their morality in their fight to win, or will humanity take over?

Keep scrolling to find out everything you need to know about Million Dollar Island.

How does Million Dollar Island work?

Each contestant starts the adventure with a wristband worth $10,000. While they are on the island, contestants can gain and lose wristbands by competing in various games.

They can also receive wristbands from other contestants. When someone gives up and decides to leave the island, they must give their wristband(s) to a contestant who stays behind.

Just like Survivor Australia and Big Brother Australia, alliances mean everything with friendships, literally, being worth a fortune.

Some contestants will become richer by winning games and inheriting wristbands, while those who lose and fail to collect new wristbands must eventually go home.

In the end, a nail-biting final game helps determine who walks away with a “life-changing prize”.

Where is Million Dollar Island filmed?

Million Dollar Island was filmed on one of the 99 islands in Langkawi, which is located off the northwestern coast of Malaysia.

Langkawi created the perfect conditions for Million Dollar Island, as during filming, Seven revealed that the weather ranged between 25 to 38 degrees. Yikes.

Who are the contestants?

From retail workers and real estate agents to farmers and nurses, 100 contestants have left their everyday life behind in the fight to win an eye-watering amount of cash.

In the shows premiere, we met mother-of-six Tess, who’s playing to support her family.

“I want to provide something for my family that I never could have. I’m going to fight really hard. I want to make my family proud,” the personal trainer shared.

For Tess, winning Million Dollar Island means securing a better life for her family. But how far will she go? Will she be willing to do anything for her children, or will her humanity get the better of her?

We also met environmentalist Brett, who’s willing to do whatever he can to secure the prize.

“I’m definitely the most powerful man on the island and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get those bracelets.

“I’m not worried about ruffling feathers. I’ll pluck them right out of there if I have to. They’re about to be devastated!” Brett teased. Eep. We wouldn’t want to mess with him…

What does the winner win?

On Million Dollar Island, 100 contestants will fight for their chance to win a share of the jaw-dropping cash prize.

Each contestant starts off with a wristband worth $10,000 and they’ll gain or lose wristbands depending on how well they play the game.

But what does the winner win?

In the show’s premiere on June 12, Ant revealed that the final three cast members would have the chance to play for a share of $1 million.

However, very little has been disclosed about how much each winner wins. All we know is that we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled…
