Love Island Australia star Cassidy McGill has broken her silence after sharing a photo of herself with a bag of white powder to Instagram.
In a statement shared to Instagram Stories on January 3, the 27-year-old reality star addressed the scandal and issued an apology.

“This past week I’ve been taking time to reflect on my actions,” she began.
“I made a mistake, which I do not take lightly,” she continued, adding that the behaviour was “out of character” for her.
“I’m truly sorry to have let you all down. I am sorry to my friends, family and my team and the brands I represent.”
She added, “I hope over time I can earn your trust and respect back.”

It is unclear whether the influencer’s paid brand collaborations will be affected following the scandal.

Love Island’s Cassidy McGill accidentally shared a selfie with a bag of white powder
ICYMI: On December 28, Cassidy caused a stir on social media when she accidentally uploaded a selfie of herself and a friend posing next to an unknown substance.
The white powder was racked up into two lines on a plate the influencer was holding in the snap.

“Ooops [sic] see you tomorrow,” Cassidy, who appeared on the first season of Love Island in 2018, captioned the pic.
While she swiftly removed it, screenshots of the snap quickly went viral and sent tongues wagging for all the wrong reasons.

Fans point out similarities between Cassidy McGill’s apology and Nadia Bartel’s white powder apology
Following Cassidy’s statement, fans were quick to point out the similarities it had with Nadia Bartel’s apology following her own white powder scandal.
The AFL wag and influencer was pictured snorting a line of an unknown substance off a plate in September 2021, sending social media into a meltdown and many brands deciding to part ways with the socialite.

“Nadia Bartel 2.0!” one fan joked.
Another mused, “It’s like stealing someone’s homework and changing a couple of words around to get past the teacher.”
Others called it a “copy and paste” job, whilst some said they didn’t think Cassidy needed to apologise for being in possession of the substance.
Following the incident, Nadia was dropped by several brands including JS Health Vitamins, a brand Cassidy has also previously worked with.

The company issued a statement at the time saying they “do not tolerate illicit behaviour” and would no longer be working with the mother-of-two.
