The creators of the worldwide phenomenon Love on the Spectrum have announced a new six-part “dating show” called Better Date Than Never.

The new ABC mini docu-series will follow six diverse Australians as they explore the dating world for the first time.

Each participant has a different reason for not having dated in the past, but all want their chance at finding love.

The showrunners aim to bring more diverse experiences and inclusive representation onto Aussie TV,

The producers have set them up on different blind dates, but they’ve prepared them for the brand-new experience rather than throwing them in the deep end with somebody they’ve never met (we’re looking at you, MAFS).

“We are with them as they experience the most important moment of their dating lives: the beginning,” they said of the new series in a statement.

Who are the participants of Better Date Than Never?

ABC’s first look of Better Date Than Never introduced us to the first season’s participants, and just like Love on the Spectrum, we love them all already!

Olivia is a dancer, actor and public speaker. She’s even addressed the United Nations as an advocate for people with Down Syndrome.

“I’ve never been on a first date. I’ve never been kissed by anybody before,” Olivia said in the trailer, before adding that she hopes her first date will “lead to something amazing”.

Charles is a 27-year-old Chinese international student from Sydney. He identifies as gay but isn’t comfortable with the “hookup culture” that can be found on dating apps, so he hasn’t had a chance to explore the dating scene in Australia yet.

“I have no idea how to pursue a relationship. I feel so nervous about everything,” Charles explained.

Nirvali is a 20-year-old self-described “hermit”, who often doesn’t leave her house due to her social anxiety. In the promotional trailer, she tells producers that she has never “held hands romantically” with anybody.

“I’d like to be in love, even if it hurts,” she said.

Dianne is a 68-year-old farmer from regional New South Wales. She has found dating as an LGBTQIA+ person in a rural area difficult and hasn’t had the opportunity to go on a date since she transitioned several years ago.

“Everybody has a soulmate, I’ve just not found mine yet,” she said.

Liv is just 20 years old, but the self-confessed romantic already has a scrapbook full of wedding plans. After being diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, Liv felt that “social isolation from her peers” has prevented her from stepping into the dating world.

She wants a husband, children and the “whole shebang”.

This show sounds wholesome AF!

We’re already counting down the days until Better Date Than Never premieres on ABC and iView on January 24.
