The 26-year-old denies ever assaulting his former partner; however, an Illawarra court has now heard that she was abused on four separate occasions in 2019.

During the court proceedings, Sam plead not guilty to four counts of assault, while also pleading guilty to two counts of intimidation, which involved showing up at his former partner’s mother’s home and threatening to kill her pet rabbits.

According to court reports obtained by The Daily Telegraph, in March 2019, Messina opened a door into his ex’s right foot, causing her physical harm.

In July of that same year, the reality TV star allegedly grabbed her by the clothes and threw her onto the floor. He was then accused of “shoving” her and then punching her in the nose, which caused it to bleed.

The court also heard that Messina whipped his then-girlfriend with a phone charging cable, with her alleging that the relationship was characterised by control and abuse.

The woman and Messina continued to live together, alongside another person, following the alleged incidents. However, she soon moved out to live with her mother.

Police Believe Sam Messina’s Ex was the Victim of a “Toxic Relationship”

During the proceedings, Police prosecutor Sergeant Ben Bragger said that the woman’s delay in reporting the allegations shouldn’t impact her statement’s “credibility” and that she was a victim of a “toxic relationship”.

“In 2022, delay is not a reason to attack credibility,” he said. “Women who are victims of domestic violence have many good reasons not to report things straight away; they are embarrassed, ashamed and don’t want their personal lives examined.

“She had the courage to report [the allegations] after her safety was breached… Enough was enough, and she felt she had to go to the police.”

However, Messina’s barrister Ed Anderson argued that she only made the allegations because there was “nothing” the police could do.

He also questioned why she didn’t move out if her former partner was beating her “non-stop” and was “constantly verbally and physically abusive”.

“She had no reason to remain in a violent home and did so voluntarily in circumstances where she could have left at any time,” he said.

The report also said that Messina was accompanied by his new girlfriend and mother, with the court to hand down judgement on Monday, November 14.

Sam Messina was the Centre of Controversy During His Stint on Farmer Wants a Wife 2021
