Married at First Sight Australia 2020‘s Hayley Vernon has revealed she’s learned an outrageous fact about Queen Elizabeth II following her death.

On September 8, news that the UK’s longest reigning monarch had died sent shockwaves across the globe. And naturally, it has spurred people to learn more about the Queen and her 96-year-long life.

Now, Hayley, 35, has taken to Instagram to share her discovery that the Queen and her late husband, Prince Philip, were related.

“I was today years old when my grandmother told me, that the queens [sic] husband was her cousin?!” she penned. “What the…

ICYMI: Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, were third cousins.

His mother, Princess Alice of Battenberg, was the great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria, making Philip her great-great-grandson on his material side. Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth was the great-great-grandaughter of Victoria on her paternal side.

The couple wed on November 20, 1947, and were married until Prince Philip’s death on April 9, 2021.

Meanwhile, Farmer Wants a Wife 2022‘s “Cupid in Arms” Samantha Armytage shared an old image of the Queen at one of her estates.
