The Amazing Race Australia 2022’s Jake O’Brien has apologised for participating in an anti-lockdown rally on July 24.
The contestant from the upcoming season has now admitted he wasn’t in the “right headspace” when he attended the controversial protest.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, the reality star revealed that “the timing of the lockdowns” was synonymous with news of being in remission after battling throat cancer in 2020.
“I honestly just wanted to have my life back and return to work,” he said, before adding that he also was in a serious motorcycle accident in 2019 that left him in a neck brace.
“I had a spinal fusion, multiple surgeries and an intense course of radiation treatment on my throat,” he said.
As for the protest, Jake “went along with a friend thinking it was okay” to “support small business owners”.
“In hindsight, it was a huge mistake, and I do regret the decision to go.”
Jake O’Brien Will Appear In The Amazing Race Australia Alongside Holly McAlpine
Due to his life being “pretty dramatic” over the last few years, Jake said he has a “lot of beautiful things” he is grateful for.
And now, the model and personal trainer is set to take on The Amazing Race Australia with his partner, Holly McAlpine.
“I applied to go on the race as I was really looking forward to just having some fun,” he said.
“I had also never really travelled anywhere outside of Australasia, so I was super excited to visit some other countries.”
