So Dramatic! can exclusively reveal who has replaced Elle Ferguson and Joel Patfull on The Block 2022, after the duo quit the series just three days in.
The influencer and footballer had Blockheads up in arms after the pair reportedly left to be by Joel’s mother’s beside following a serious fall.
However, a source previously revealed to So Dramatic! that their decision to leave had more to do with not being able to hack it, rather than familial obligations.
Even host Scott Cam had some choice words about the couple’s “p*ss-poor” walkout!
While Nine admitted that they’d found a new team to replace Elle and Joel, fans have been kept in the dark as to who the new contestants are. Well, until now, that is!
As reported in episode 206 of the So Dramatic! podcast, Sydney parents Rachel and Ryan Carr are rumoured to have joined The Block 2022 as the fifth team.
They also have been featured in official promos for the series — which is set to premiere on August 7.
A friend of the couple told So Dramatic! host Megan Pustetto that the parents of three had previously told their loved ones via Instagram that they’d “missed out on a spot to an influencer couple”.
In a post shared by Rachel, she provided her followers with a “Block Update”.
“Many of you know we applied and were pretty successful in our audition process for The Block. [sic],” she penned. “We made it down to the very final selection and for a hot minute, we thought we were actually on.
“Unfortunately we were pipped to the post by an influencer couple. [sic].”
Rachel and Ryan Carr Were Called Up to The Block As Soon As Elle Ferguson and Joel Patfull Quit
According to the insider source, Rachel and Ryan were called up to appear on The Block on April 18 — the same day that The Daily Telegraph broke the news of Elle and Joel’s departure.
Apparently, the new contenders rushed to the ‘gram to tell their followers of the good news, as well as “a photo of themselves holding hands on an aeroplane”.
What’s more, is that they revisited the post once filming wrapped up “last weekend”.
“They reshared the holding hands post last weekend as they were leaving The Block, as a memory on their IG story and wrote: ‘how it started’,” the source dished.
Rachel also teased their arrival on the show the night before the August 8 episode.
“The Block starts tonight!!!!” she wrote. “We come on TOMORROW NIGHT to replace the walk outs!!!!!!!
“TUNE IN!!!! [sic].”
We have no doubt that Rachel and Ryan will serve up some stunning rooms, especially seeing as the couple are the directors of their own home design and renovation company, The R&R Design Co.
Sources Close to Rachel and Ryan Carr Speak Highly of the New Block Couple
Another friend of the new Block couple sang their praises, telling So Dramatic! that they are “super friendly and down to earth”.
Thank God! Hopefully no complaints from these two about the bog roll!
Adding that Rachel and Ryan have “three small kids”, the source said it was “so great” they got a “second chance” at the competition.
Additionally, a production source said that despite the quick onslaught of drama once on-set, the newcomers “handled it like pros”.
“The new couple flew in on the Monday [after Elle and Joel quit]. The poor things,” they mused. “They had a lot to deal with straight away but handled it like pros and with a can-do attitude which is what The Block is all about.”
The source also dished that Rachel and Ryan were quite popular among the cast and crew.
“They have been great to work with… most of the contestants this year have been really great.”
