Big Brother Australia two-time winner Reggie Bird has been open about losing her vision and becoming legally blind since her first stint on the show.

But despite seeing Reggie need assistance to walk to different areas of the Big Brother house, it was difficult for fans who didn’t have experience with a vision impairment to conceptualise just what the OG was dealing with.

Reggie was diagnosed with a degenerative eye condition known as retinitis pigmentosa, which causes the cells in the retina to break down over time, resulting in poor vision and blindness.

During the Big Brother live finale, Reggie mentioned how her vision impacted her ability to do nomination challenges.

“It was hard. Those challenges were brutal; they were terrible actually,” Reggie said.

She explained she had to memorise where everything was in the house so she could freely move around.

Reggie became the first ever Big Brother competitor to win twice after she took home the $250,000 prize money on July 12. She plans on putting the money towards purchasing a home for her family.
