The creators of The Voice Australia and Big Brother Australia have launched a new survival TV series, Million Dollar Island Australia and it is casting now!

As the name implies, the winner is set to take home $1 million in prize money, but they’ll be competing with 100 other contestants on a deserted island for the chance.

The new Seven show, which originally launched this year in The Netherlands, has been dubbed the “world’s biggest social experiment”.

Each contestant is given a “$10,000 bracelet”, which they must give away when they leave the island and so the finalist with the most bling, wins!

Contestants are set to film on the deserted island for six weeks, some time between September to November 2022.

The Premise of Million Dollar Island Sounds Familiar… Squid Game, Is That You?

You remember Netflix’s 2021 Korean survival-horror series Squid Game, right?

If you decided to skip streaming the mega-hit series, here’s the summary: “Hundreds of cash-strapped contestants are taken to an unknown location to compete in children’s games for a tempting prize, but the stakes are deadly.”

And uh, here’s how the Dutch version of Million Dollar Island is described…

The show will pit 100 survivalists against each other for a $1 million prize ā€“ forcing them into teams, depriving them of food, forcing them to build their own shelters and competing to be the last person on the island.

While they’re not planning any Hunger Games/televised murder just yet, it is easy to see the similarities.

What kind of cast are the Million Dollar Island showrunners looking for?

Interestingly, the casting page asks applicants whether they “cope well in the great outdoors” and if they prefer “glamping, camping, basics or none of these at all”.

They even asked how applicants interact around strangers, promising they will be “looking for all types” of personalities.

The application also asked for survivalist training or experience, as well as the candidate’s biggest fears. They totally won’t use that knowledge for nefarious challenges, we’re sure!

If you think you’re up for a challenge, you can find the casting call right here. Good luck!
