Fans of The Voice Australia 2022 have been left gobsmacked after a preview for the final episode revealed the truth about how the grand finale is filmed.

Following the semi-finals performances on Sunday night, host Sonia Kruger told the audience that voting was open, and would remain open until the finalists had finished performing in the next episode.

However, fans were confused about the format, given that Channel 7 then showed a preview for the grand finale, revealing that it had already been recorded.

Taking to Twitter, viewers expressed their concern over the revelation.

“So we are not voting for final performances. We’re voting for tonight’s performances basically,” one penned. “Definitely don’t like this new format.”

Another clocked the editing faux pas and mused whether The Voice audience votes truly count towards the victor.

“Didn’t they just show the grand final performance? So even the grand final won’t be fully live, or is the winner already chosen and votes do nothing?”

Has The Voice Australia 2022 Finale Already Been Filmed?

According to News.com.au, the grand final is, in fact, prerecorded. However, any and all votes cast by fans WILL “entirely determine the winner” due to the filming of alternate endings.

But what exactly constitutes “alternate endings”?

Basically, each finalist has filmed both a winning AND losing version of the finale and as such, won’t be aware of whether they’re the real winner until the show airs next Sunday after the public vote is counted.

The two preceding season finales of The Voice Australia were also prerecorded.

In 2020, the grand finale was pre-filmed to adhere to COVID restrictions.

When the series moved to Channel 7 in 2021, it was prerecorded for the same reason.

This year, Lachie Gill, Faith Sosene, Jordan Tavita and Thando Sikwila will face off in The Voice Australia 2022 grand finale.
