Every year Australia’s dad Hamish Blake makes his (actual) son Sonny a super cool cake to celebrate his birthday.
The big reveal of Hamish’s creation is the absolute highlight of the reality TV calendar and it is almost time for the Lego Masters host to show off his baking skills once again.
Sonny – one of two children that Hamish shares with wife Zoe Foster Blake –turned eight on May 10, however, his party – where the grand dessert will be unveiled – isn’t until May 14.
Since we are literally on the edge of our seats waiting to see what he has whipped up this year, we took the liberty of recounting ALL of the incredible birthday cakes Hamish has made for his son in years past.
2021 – Pikachu Cake
For Sonny’s seventh birthday, Hamish baked him a glorious cake using construction skills to rival the Lego Masters competitors.
The YUGE cake featured Pikachu burning out of a large Pokéball (which was constructed from lego, fittingly).
There was also jelly inside the ball and smoke came out of it when opened. Genius.
2020 – Aladdin Cake
In 2020, when Sonny turned six, he had requested an Aladdin-themed birthday cake.
Hamish upped the ante and crafted a sweet cakey version of the Cave of Wonders.
The thing LITERALLY lit up. Wow.
2019 – Dino Cake
It’s not every day that a young man turns five, so for Sonny’s fifth birthday, Hamish went all out.
Making every kid’s Jurrasic Park dream come to life, he made his son a Velociraptor cake. Sonny requested that the dinosaur be able to “open and shut it’s mouth,” and don’t worry, dad delivered.
In a stroke of creative genius, Hamish constructed the dino’s body out of rice bubbles and marshmallows (yum) and in the end it looks pretty damn delicious.
2018 – Slimer Cake
For Sonny’s 2018 birthday cake, Hamish had to bake six actual cakes and stack them all up on top of each other in order to create the body of the Ghostbusters character Slimer.
It included some slightly unnerving lolly teeth and, as Hamish revealed on Instagram, left his hands stained green for a good while.
2017 – Cars Cake
Sonny’s third birthday cake is the first one that we have on record.
It may have been his first birthday cake made for his babies, but Hamish did not disappoint, concocting an exquisite cake replica of Mack, the truck from Disney’s Cars franchise.
The vehicle was complete with an edible hinge on the back ramp and all!
