Love Island Australia 2021 winner Mitch Hibberd has revealed to his fans that he has tested positive for COVID-19.
The former AFL player has been living it up since winning the hit TV series alongside girlfriend Tina Provis, visiting many local Melbourne haunts as part of his unofficial victory tour.
Now, Mitch, like many other Aussies, has contracted COVID-19 while out and about during the holiday season.
On Wednesday, the reality star took to his Instagram stories to reveal the news which arose while Tina and his co-stars Aaron Waters and Ryan Reid were staying at his apartment.
“Hey guys, just a little update. I was meant to be traveling this week so I had to get a COVID test,” he started. “It’s actually come back positive, to yeah, I’ve got COVID-19.”
As a result, the four Love Island chums are required to carry out a ten-day quarantine at his home.
Mitch went on to explain that he feels “a little bit sick”, however, it’s “nothing too bad” at this stage.
“It’s just an eyeopener to how serious it is,” the 25-year-old confessed. “Hopefully everyone can get double vaccinated because it’s not a nice situation.”
He concluded: “Everyone stay safe and take care.”
When Will Mitch Hibberd And His Love Island Co-Stars Be Out Of Isolation?
The Melburnian also posted the news to his Insta grid, revealing he is “disappointed” over the turn of events.
“What a way to end the year! As you might’ve seen on my stories I’ve tested positive for covid, definitely not how I expected to spend my Christmas,” he said. “While I’m super disappointed, I’m hopeful I can still see my family for Christmas.”
“I’m so thankful that I’ve not been too affected and feeling like I’m on the mend.”
In a subsequent post on his story, Mitch revealed that his DMs had been “blowing up” with an outpouring of support from fans.
“DAMN you guys are the best!!!” he penned to his 74.8K followers. “Already blowing up my DMs with love!”
Luckily for the group of former Islanders, they’ll be out of isolation just before Christmas, according to Mitch.
“We are out of iso on the 23rd so hopefully we can see our families for Christmas,” he explained.
Tina Provis On Mitchell Hibberd’s COVID-19 Diagnosis
Similarly, Tina addressed the “curveball” of her boyfriend’s diagnosis on the ‘gram.
“Life is full of surprises!” her caption read. “Not the Christmas holidays we planned for, but have to deal with the cards you’re dealt.
“In true 2021 fashion, Covid has thrown us one final curveball,” the 25-year-old said.
But regardless of the hindrance, the virus has put on their plans, Tina is “grateful that Mitch is okay”.
“Appreciate all the love you guys have sent us both. Stay safe.”
Taking to her own Instagram story, the Love Island 2021 victor revealed that while she has also been unwell, her COVID-19 test came back as negative.
At the time of writing, Aaron and Ryan are yet to receive their test results.
