Former journalist Phoebe Burgess appears to have made a swipe at ex-husband Sam Burgess after he aired their dirty laundry during SAS Australia 2021‘s first episode.
The former South Sydney Rabbitohs captain told ex-Special Forces soldiers Ant Middleton, Mark ‘Billy’ Billingham and Jason ‘Foxy’ Fox that he “lost it all” as a result of his alcoholism and drug addiction, and even confessed to the previously alleged affair he maintained during his marriage to Phoebe.
“I don’t think I was the greatest husband at times. I embarrassed my wife,” he said. “Yeah, I had an affair with a woman in Melbourne.”
Not long after the explosive confession went to air, Phoebe, who shares daughter Poppy, four, and son Billy, two, with Sam, seemingly responded by posting a not-so-sneaky image of a book aptly titled Charmed and Dangerous: A Woman’s Guide To Reclaiming a Healthy Relationship. Ah, there’s nothing like a public jab at an ex with zero subtlety to it! Come on, admit it — we’re all guilty of it!
In episode 101 of So Dramatic! With Megan Pustetto, a source revealed even more damning details about the affair that contributed to the couple’s deteriorating marriage, including how it all began!
“Sam cheated on Phoebe during a boys’ trip in Melbourne for his younger brother George‘s buck’s party,” the source said of the event which allegedly took place over the last weekend of November 2016. “I was attending the hen’s party for Jessie Murphy, the wife of Carlton AFL player Marc Murphy.
“Sam and his brother just so happened to be at the same pub for George’s buck’s party,” the source dished. “The group of guys started talking to the group of girls and then we all started drinking together. After the pub, we all went to a strip club and then it ended back at a hotel room with everyone.”
The source dropped bombshell after bombshell in the recount of the affair, telling So Dramatic! that the pair continued to see each other over the course of six months and that the mistress “didn’t care that he was married”! WTF?
Inclusive of his affair, Sam revealed on SAS that his “last 18 months have been crazy”.
“Everything I’ve touched turned to s**t,” he said, discussing the moment he was arrested for driving under the influence of cocaine when he failed a roadside drug test in February 2021. He was also charged with driving an unregistered vehicle without a valid NSW driver’s license, yet avoided conviction with a nine-month good behaviour bond and a fine of over $1,000.
The rugby league player was also previously found guilty of intimidating his former father-in-law, but the charges were quashed in May this year after the judge deduced that there was a “substantial possibility” Mitch was fabricating evidence against Sam to help Phoebe’s case.
