Have you ever wondered how The Bachelor / Bachelorette Australia hometown visits are organised on such short notice? Well, it turns out that it’s not really short notice at all!
Former Bachelorette hottie Todd King, from Ali Oetjen’s season, spilled all the tea on hometowns and how the selection works.
He told So Dramatic’s Megan Pustetto that the Bachelor/Bachelorette actually tells producers early on in filming who they think their final four or five will be.
This is because production needs to make sure the chosen contestant’s families are all available on certain dates, make sure they can all be at the chosen location, book flights and accommodation — not only for the family but for the entire filming crew as well. That sh*t takes time!
If a contestant doesn’t have as interesting a family, production may swap them out for someone else to spice it up a bit, or if someone else’s location is better they may go for that person.
Lily Price was said to make it to hometowns on this year’s Bachelor with Jimmy Nicholson for example, however, after finding out that her family would not be up for filming, producers decided to drop Lily like a hot potato and sub her out for a contestant whose family were up for filming.
It’s possible that Lily was replaced by Carlie Hodges because her dad is a super strict ex-rugby player and they filmed at a stunning vineyard which made for incredible scenic shots, and therefore a more interesting (depending on who you ask) hometown visit.
So there you go! They select the final four based on who will have the better hometown!
