It’s been nine years since Tully Smyth was in the Big Brother Australia house, and now she’s back to stir trouble.
And while she’s probably one of the most popular contestants ever to enter the series, there’s one thing people have been wondering about for years — just how da fuq do you pronounce Tully’s surname.
‘Smyth’, Meaning ‘Smith’ Has a Different Pronunciation
Tully’s last name is ‘Smyth’, which is an old English name that actually originated in Scotland and Ireland.
The moniker can be spelled a number of ways, including ‘Smith’ — however, ‘Smyth’ is not pronounced the same way.
Given that there is no “i” in her name, there is no “ie” sound, which means it is pronounced SM-EYE-TH.
Why Is Big Brother Australia 2022’s Tully Smyth So Famous?
Tully first appeared in the Big Brother house in season 10 and garnered attention for her scandalous fling with fellow contestant Anthony Drew (most known as Drew).
Tully hooked up with her housemate despite having a girlfriend, Tahlia Farrant, of two years at home.
She was booted in week eight after all of Australia condemned her for having a relationship on the outside.
She later re-entered the house as part of a challenge, kissed Drew, and then disappeared again — something that defs wouldn’t hold up in today’s climate.
