Despite claiming they were just “friends”, Married at First Sight Australia 2025‘s Billy Belcher has hinted in a big way that he’s hooked up with Awhina Rutene.
ICYMI: Awhina and Billy’s partners, Adrian Araouzou and Sierah Swepstone, were involved in a cheating scandal, prompting Billy to joke that they should swap partners.
Fans then begged for the pair to recouple. And their wishes seemed to have been granted because Awhina and Billy were snapped on a date on February 19 in photos shared by Woman’s Day.
However, in episode 490 of the So Dramatic! podcast, Billy shut down the romance rumours, telling host Megan Pustetto they were “just friends”.
“We’ve been in Perth together and leant on each other’s shoulders [after what played out on screen],” he said. “We chat a lot. I’ve been there for her… We’re just friends; that’s all we are at this stage.”

On former TV bride Lauren Dunn’s spin-off So Dramatic! podcast, MAFS Afterparty with Lauren Dunn, Billy spilled some tea about his relationship with Awhina.
When asked if he’s dating Awhina, Billy responded: “I mean look, me and Awhina have had some fun. But we ain’t dating.”
Lauren then prodded him some more and asked: “Did you hook up with Awhina?”
To which Billy unconvincingly replied, “Nah…”
Lauren then squealed, “Oh my god, Billy! I love this so much!” And so do we!
