Married at First Sight Australia 2024‘s Jack Dunkley admitted to his wife Tori Adams that he’s into “golden showers”; but what does that actually mean?

In the February 12 episode, Jack and Tori were challenged with the “Yes, No, Maybe” task as part of Intimacy Week, in which they discussed their sexual interests and desires.

While the couple aligned on several items on the list, Tori was left a smidge shocked when Jack “said yes” to golden showers.

“Massive ick,” Tori expressed, adding, “Absolutely not. It’s something I would consider unnecessary to the highest degree.

“It’s just not clean, is it?… What’s wrong with you?”

She sarcastically concluded: “Go to church. You need it.” Amen, sis!

What is a golden shower?

A golden shower — also known as p*ss play or watersports, as Jack’s co-star Lauren Dunn put it — is often a form of foreplay in which “one urinates on their partner as part of the activity,” certified sex therapist Aliyah Moore, PhD, told Popsugar.

She explained that people who enjoy golden showers do so for a variety of reasons, including the exploration of dominant and submissive roles in a BDSM [bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, sadism and masochism] setting.

Clinical psychologist and intimacy coach Lori Beth Bisbey, PhD, also told Popsugar that in this scenario, one person might enjoy being the “dominant” lover. As such, peeing on their submissive is a way to assert consensual power or ownership over the other.

“It is part of a power exchange, so [submissives] accept it to honour the person who is the dominant,” says Dr Bisbey.

This checks out, because Jack has previously expressed that he’s an “alpha male” who likes a submissive partner.

Are golden showers safe?

According to the outlet’s experts, golden showers are safe — for the most part.

Urine can contain bacteria, which can be spread through contact. As such, there is a potential for the spread of certain infections,” Dr Moore said.

“Additionally, if urine is ingested or enters the eyes or other mucus membranes, there is a risk of infection.”

As such, it’s recommended that people use proper protection when engaging in this activity — whether that be a cloth, goggles or the like. Also, refrain from ingesting the liquid.

Dr Moore also noted that it’s important to refrain from kink-shaming, regardless of your view on golden showers.

“Kink-shaming implies that certain sexual activities or interests are wrong or immoral, which can be damaging to people who have consensual and safe kinks or interests.”
