Since Married at First Sight Australia 2024 premiered, viewers have noticed something a little different about groom Jayden Eynaud‘s ears.

Eagle-eyed fans of the experiment spied that the cartilage at the top of Jayden’s left ear appeared slightly swollen and to have morphed into itself.

It turns out that this is the result of Jayden’s career as a kickboxer.

The condition is commonly referred to as “cauliflower ear” but is officially known as perichondrial hematoma.

This is a deformity that occurs when “blood pools in your pinna after it’s been hit or struck”, according to Healthline.

While the injury doesn’t seem to bother Jayden — whose brother Mitch Eynaud also appeared on MAFS in 2022 — if untreated, cauliflower ear can lead to ringing in your ear, hearing loss, headache and blurred vision.

Jayden Eynaud isn’t the first MAFS groom to have ‘cauliflower ears’

The 26-year-old isn’t the first Married at First Sight groom to have this condition.

In 2022, Mitch’s co-star Andrew Davis received an unlikely amount of attention on social media for his “cauliflower ear”.

According to one So Dramatic! source, Andrew’s damaged ear was due to the TV groom’s wrestling past.
