Melissa Leong has revealed her surprising new project following her departure from her long-time judging role on MasterChef Australia.

According to news.com.au, the food critic will be fronting the new SBS documentary series The Hospital: In The Deep End, where she’ll appear alongside actor Samuel Johnson and Gardening Australia‘s Costa Georgiadis.

The media personality explained that she was approached for the three-part series due to her mother’s experience in the healthcare industry.

“She was nursing unit manager in the emergency department in Sutherland Hospital for about a decade and she’s been a nurse since she was 17,” Melissa said.

“So to be given the opportunity to be a deeply unqualified fly on the wall, to get a feel for how much pressure the public health system is under, why would you say no to that?”

She also took to Instagram on November 1 to share the news with her followers.

“Together, we jump head first into the world of @stvincentshospitalsydney, following doctors, nurses and hospital staff as they face daily challenges on the front line,” she wrote.

“It’s a life blessing for me to be given the chance to continue my expansion and evolution in television… Food will always be there, but aren’t we allowed to be so many things?!”

Melissa will also be leading MasterChef’s new spin-off, Dessert Masters.

Melissa Leong clears up MasterChef exit amid rumours she was ‘AXED’

This comes after the 41-year-old cleared up rumours that she was “axed” from the hit cooking show.

“I want to express my gratitude for the overwhelming support this past day, in sharing the news that I am shifting gears and making space in my life for a delicious new chapter,” Melissa wrote to Instagram.

“I’m here and happy to clear that up, because negative tropes draped around women who achieve something is boring. And frankly, we are all better than that.”

Preach it, sis!
