Real Housewives of Sydney‘s Victoria Montano has doubled down on “disrespectful” cultural appropriation following a widely criticised Instagram post.

Following the second episode of the RHOS reboot in which the housewives partook in an Arabian Nights-themed dinner party, Victoria took to the ‘gram to confess that her “BBQ appropriate fashion… is not a one-off”.

In the two-slide carousel, Victoria showed off her RHOS outfit before revealing a video of her cooking a BBQ while wearing a traditional Native American headdress.

The backlash was hard and fast, forcing the housewife to amend her Instagram caption.

“I have received some comments about it being inappropriate to wear this outfit as I BBQ and it’s a sign of disrespect,” Victoria wrote. “For the record I love reading and learning about Native American cultures.

“It links back to my own personal love of feathers. Which is why I have collected many of their headdresses and other artifacts over the years.”

She added: “Sometimes in life people come from a good place… and we all need to be given the benefit of the doubt.”

What did people say about Real Housewives of Sydney‘s Victoria Montano’s cultural appropriation?

In the comment section, one of Victoria’s followers said the headdress was “not appropriate fashion”.

“If you’re a collector you should know that it is offensive to Native American culture to wear war headdresses,” they wrote. “Being wilfully ignorant isn’t coming from a good place.”

Another said: “Oh no. I don’t think this is going to land the way you’d like. “This is incredibly inappropriate and disrespectful.”

“I’m Cherokee Indian and this is disrespectful,” a third user penned. “Cultural appropriation is not to be proud of.”

In response, the Real Housewives of Sydney star said she was “sorry that [the user] feel[s] that way”.

“I respect very much Native American culture and have collected many things related to it over my years,” she added.

However, the follower was not impressed with the reality star’s reply.

“You’re not addressing the fact that you are parading in a Native American war bonnet which is incredibly disrespectful to them,” they said.

“It has NOT been ok to wear this type of cultural appropriation clothing for a couple [of] decades now. This is red face akin to black face. “

They concluded: “Instead of apologising for offence you’ve doubled down!”

Victoria is yet to respond, and her post remains on her Instagram account.
