SAS Australia 2020‘s Roxy Jacenko is warning people against using Ozempic after an overdose of the controversial drug left her feeling like she was going to die.

ICYMI: Ozempic is a diabetes medication that has been the topic of many headlines recently as people continue to use it as a quick fix for weight loss.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Roxy confessed she turned to the drug after she gained 15 kilograms from using Tamoxifen — a hormone therapy used to treat breast cancer.

According to the 43-year-old, she had previously tried other methods to lose weight to no avail.

“I tried not eating much, I tried cutting out alcohol and I tried exercising. It didn’t work, I didn’t shed the weight,” she said.

“I thought, ‘I am reading and hearing about Ozempic all the time. I am trying it.”

When she visited her doctor to gain a prescription, he refused. So, Roxy looked elsewhere and obtained it with ease.

At the time, she resorted to paying someone $2,500 to pick it up in Nowra, NSW.

“You would be blown away by the number of people who will give you scripts for that stuff,” she said.

Roxy Jacenko says she acted ‘like a junkie’ once she started using Ozempic

Once she obtained the Ozempic, Roxy confessed she acted “like a junkie” in her desperation to lose weight.

Her desperation was so intense that she took four doses of Ozempic in one hit.

“I thought, ‘You know what, I am desperate. I had turned into this person who would only wear leggings, trainers and an oversized T-shirt,” she said. “I didn’t feel comfortable, I didn’t feel confident. I couldn’t even do my jeans up.

“I couldn’t wait.”

However, the PR mogul had an adverse reaction to the medication, which resulted in vomiting uncontrollably and non-stop shaking, which is commonly seen in epilepsy cases.

She was forced to call and ambulance and was rushed to hospital.

Now, Roxy is warning people to stay away from Ozempic.

“Why am I speaking about this? Because if there is one thing about me, I own it. And if this is a lesson to anyone who is trying to get it, then great,” she said.

“It is not worth the ramifications.”

Fans hit out at Roxy Jacenko for ‘abusing’ Ozempic

Roxy took to Instagram to share her interview with The Daily Telegraph, encouraging those who are considering using Ozempic for weight loss to have “a read”.

However, the comment section was soon flooded with backlash from fans criticising the mum-of-two for “abusing” the medication.

“Not the drugs fault you abused it. If you took 4 doses of any drug it could be a lethal combination,” one user wrote. “I’m pre-diabetic and I’ve lost weight on it.

“Taking it for medical reasons and I’m fine. Using the right dosage and only for a certain period of time.”

Others penned similar comments.

“I say this kindly, but you did take four times the suggested dose and your regular doctor wouldn’t prescribe it to you,” another said. “This is a very safe and effective drug when used appropriately and under medical supervision.”

A third follower, who claims to have “lived with diabetes for most of [their] life”, urged people to “leave Ozempic for the diabetics”.

There’s been a worldwide shortage of Ozempic since it gained popularity online. The shortage in Australia is expected to remain until the end of 2023.
