It’s almost time to get back on the tools because filming for the new season of The Block 2023 is set to start any day now.

The 2023 location for Nine’s hit renovation show is said to be a hive of activity as five 1960s properties in Melbourne’s Hampton East undergo some major building works in preparation for the new contestants.

We can only assume that means taking a sledgehammer to the rather lovely interiors of number 18 Charming Street to level the playing field.

How much $$$ Nine forked out for The Block properties

The Charming Street homes, numbered 14, 16, 18, 20 and 22, were purchased off the market for $14.3 million by Nine-owned company MicJoy Pty Ltd. in 2022.

That’s probably considered a bargain in this market.

The total comes in under the $11 million the producers paid for 28 hectares of land in Gisborne South for the 2022 season.

The property at 20 Charming Street was the most expensive, costing $3.5 million for the 701-square-metre block.

While 14 Charming Street sold for $3 million, number 16 sold for $2.3 million. Number 18 and the final home at number 22 were both acquired for $2.75 million according to Core Logic.

The up-and-coming area is conveniently located just minutes from Moorabbin Primary School and Brighton Secondary College.

Buyers agent and The Block regular Nicole Jacobs previously told realestate.com.au the location would make the season “a lot easier” and Charming St is a “great street.”

“It’s bringing it back to a neighbourhood format, and it’s going to be a lot easier than Gisborne,” she said.

“While Hampton East is the poor cousin of Hampton, it’s starting to really take off.

“There’s good infrastructure around there with parks, Moorabbin station and a large Woolworths.

“It’s a happy little pocket and there are some lovely established homes.

“I think it will be more manageable and achievable for buyers to think about buying in that pocket and it will pick up that whole area.”

Everything we know about The Block 2023

The upcoming season of The Block 2023 is expected to air on Nine in early August.

No cast members have been revealed at this stage although it’s been rumoured The Block 2022’s Jenny Heath will return to the show as an official “lady tradie” alongside Scott Cam.

Scott’s dog Frankie is also expected to return because TBH, who doesn’t love dogs?
