They’ve been one of the strongest couples on Married at First Sight Australia 2023, however, Duncan James and Alyssa Barmonde’s marriage is about to hit some turbulence.
As revealed in episode 265 of the So Dramatic! podcast, cracks begin to form between the pair from the very first day of the Couples Retreat.
In fact, things get so bad that they even have a “huge blow-up” and don’t speak for two-and-a-half days.
“It was pretty bad,” one insider reveals. “It was a full-on screaming and yelling match.”
The insider explained that it all started over the boy’s tennis tournament.
“Alyssa got upset with Duncan for not hanging out with her as much as she wanted him to,” they dished.
“They had spent the morning together playing all of these games and then in the afternoon he played some tennis with the boys while she was with the girls and she just lost it.”
Alyssa got “really upset” with the 36-year-old cyber security salesman and then “completely iced him out” for the rest of the holiday.
“Duncan told the boys that he thought it was childish,” the source said. “He had spent all day with her.”
According to our insider, it all came down to the duo having “very different styles of communication.”
“When things get hard, Duncan likes to talk things out, whereas Alyssa completely shuts off and likes to remove herself from the situation and have time away to cool off,” they explained.

The 35-year-old executive assistant is said to have had fears about Duncan “brushing her for the boys” going into the Couples Retreat.
“She was concerned that Duncan wouldn’t spend much time with her and that it would be a boy’s club,” they dished. “He reassured her that she would be a priority. But then she didn’t feel like one.”
They went on to explain that Alyssa has “insecurities” about being a single mum and dating again and was “constantly self-sabotaging.”
