Ever wondered why the Love Island Australia cast wears sunglasses to bed? Well, we have the answer!

Fans of the series will notice that in recent seasons of the hit dating show — here and in the UK — contestants have been sporting sunnies as soon as they wake up in the morning.

While we’re sure it’s to hide their “woke up like dis” demeanour, it’s also for another reason!

Why Does the Love Island Cast Wear Sunglasses in Bed?

According to Love Island Australia 2019 winner Josh Packham, lack of sleep contributes to sporting the eyewear in the mornings.

“You are so tired,” The Block 2021 alum told So Dramatic!. “You get roughly five hours of sleep a night, and with cameras on you, the last thing you want is to be looking your worst!” LOLZ.

While looking your best is a Love Island essential, there’s also another reason.

“They just turn on these bright lights and you can barely see anything, you are that tired!”

Former UK islander Elma Pazar, who starred in the 2019 series, also revealed the same sentiments in 2021.

After fans questioned the odd sleeping accessory on Twitter, she took to her socials to explain why they were necessary.

“The light is so bright when it flicks on, and I don’t know many people that wake up pretty in the mornings,” she said.

If you ask us, seeing genetically blessed people wake up looking a little bit worse for wear makes them SO much more relatable!
