Australian Survivor’s Sophie Cachia has announced her break up with basketballer Maddie Garrick.

Taking to her Instagram Story on October 23, the reality star and influencer revealed the shocking news, asking for her fans to “let her be”.

The couple, who became engaged seven months ago, had just begun a long-distance relationship after Maddie moved to Florence, Italy, for a work opportunity with Polisportiva A.Galli Basket.

“It is with sadness and a great deal of pain that I have unfortunately made the decision to end my relationship,” Sophie said.

“Despite the great deal of love I still hold, I have made this decision to lead by example for what I know I deserve in life for myself and for my children — because we are all worthy.”

The mum-fluencer then said, “while I am hurting, life must go on”.

“I still have to show up for work with my businesses and most importantly be a mum and role model to my two children.”

Sophie Cachia Asked her Fans for Privacy

Even though Sophie made the ultimate decision, she did state it was not a “position” she wanted to be in.

“Therefore, I beg you, please let me be, to protect my children, my mental health and allow us all to heal and move forward.

“I will not be commenting any further.”

The announcement came just days after the Survivor contestant returned home after visiting Maddie overseas.

Less than ten minutes after posting about the breakdown of her relationship, what was obviously a pre-scheduled post about her sleepwear range, went live on her Instagram.

Sophie Cachia’s Journey with Maddie Garrick

The designer was previously married to AFL star Jaryd Cachia (with whom she had two children, Bobby, eight, and Florence, five) however; their marriage ended in 2019 after Sophie realised she “liked women”.

“That married life, I realised, wasn’t what I wanted. And it wasn’t that I realised, ‘Oh, I like women now, I’m going to leave my marriage.’ it wasn’t that; I realised I wanted more,” she told Mia Freedman on the No Filter podcast in 2020.

After a serious relationship with soccer player and Matildas star Alanna Kennedy, Sophie began dating Maddie — however, they were on-again-off-again as the entrepreneur admittedly kept running back to Alanna.

The pair finally got together after Sophie realised it was Maddie she wanted.

“She’s beautiful and always was,” Sophie told the same podcast. “So it was very difficult being in love with someone else and having to push someone away that every single person in my life loved.

“It’s not like they didn’t like Alanna. But they knew that Maddie was better for me, and I was more ‘me’ when I was around her. They saw this relaxed, happy version of me.”

Sophie Cachia’s Proposal to Maddie Garrick

On Mardi Gras weekend in March 2022, Sophie proposed to her then-girlfriend, with Maddie captioning her reveal, “It was always you”.

For her announcement, Sophie revealed how she had chosen the perfect engagement ring, knowing she wanted “something classic & timeless”.

While we don’t know what really led to their split, we wish them both all the best!
