Love Island Australia’s Tayla Damir has shared a diagnosis she wished was “picked up on earlier”.

Taking to her TikTok on October 10, the 25-year-old revealed that she only “found out” that she had attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and dyslexia.

While admitting the news to her legion of fans, Tayla “seriously” wished her symptoms were “picked up on earlier”, having been told through childhood to just “learn to concentrate” and “pay attention” when she struggled at school.

The reality star also joked in the caption that her fiancé Nathan Broad was “judging” her because it took three takes to film the video.

But seriously I wish this was picked up on earlier. Me laughing at nathan judging me while I record this for the third time

It’s not the first time Tayla has candidly shared her personal life on TikTok. She also opened up about having an eating disorder on the video-sharing app in May.

Why Was Love Island Australia’s Tayla Damir Diagnosed with ADHD and Dyslexia in Her 20s?

ADHD is a neuro-developmental disorder, with symptoms including limited attention span, hyperactivity and/or impulsivity.

Dyslexia is a learning disorder commonly characterised by difficulty reading, decoding language patterns and identifying speech sounds.

While Tayla’s TikTok was upbeat and fun, she touched on topics many neurodiverse people struggle with.

Clinical psychologist Jaimie Bloch told ABC that it is common for people assigned female at birth (AFAB) to only be diagnosed with ADHD in adulthood.

This is because AFAB people with ADHD can often experience inattentiveness and distractibility more strongly, which can go under the radar.

At the same time, hyperactivity is often more noticeable in a classroom setting.
