Dancing with the Stars alum and comedian Jimmy Rees has announced that his 11-year-old nephew Rye Johnson has died.
Taking to his Instagram with an emotional post, the Giggle and Hoot star revealed that Rye had “passed away with his parents by his side”.
“Yesterday my nephew Rye passed away with his parents by his side,” he penned in the heartfelt post.
“Some of you may have been following Rye’s journey on his page @ryesworld_ … We love you Rye. May you Rest In Peace, pain free.
“What an incredible life of resilience, courage and strength. The mark you have left on us all will remain forever in our hearts. Uncle Jimmy will see you again soon buddy. [sic]”
Why Did Rye Johnson Pass Away?
Rye, who had cerebral palsy and a childhood disintegrative disorder, died peacefully at The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne around lunchtime on August 15.
“Our beautiful Rye-man grew his wings today 😇,” his mum Brooke Johnson wrote on her son’s Instagram page, before giving a shout out to the staff at the hospital.
“He passed peacefully at 12:56pm with his Mum and Dad by his side. The Royal Children’s Hospital, doctors, nurses and staff are beyond amazing!
“Our hearts are breaking and we can’t explain how much we love you Rye-man. Your strength’s will live on through your little brother and sister. Fly high and pain free 🧡 Forever our baby! [sic]”
Jimmy came to prominence as a children’s entertainer before competing on Dancing with the Stars in 2021. He had to withdraw from the competition after his seven-week-old son, Mack, suffered complications during a routine procedure.
