Big Brother Australia has finally announced it will be returning in 2023, but they’re putting an odd dating show spin on the housemates’ dynamics by requesting that applicants are single and ready to mingle.

After an insider previously told So Dramatic! that the beloved series was off the airwaves for good, it seems that Big Brother Australia has changed its tune.

Production company Endemol Shine (the peeps also behind Married at First Sight and Beauty and the Geek) released a casting call that seems to suggest they’re looking to put a romantic twist on the classic format.

You mean to tell us that it’s Love Island without the exotic location? Well, not quite.

According to their Instagram comments, “people in relationships are still welcome to apply”. Phew! Although, that sounds like they’re hoping to recreate some Trully drama once again.

Big Brother Australia 2023 will adopt a shorter filming period than the past Fan vs Faves season.

In the 2022 season, finalists Taras Hrubyj-Piper, Reggie Bird and Johnson Ashak survived 62 days in the Big Brother house, before the only remaining OG took out the win in the live finale.

However, the 2023 contestants will have to duke it out to make the top three in less than 50 days! Sounds like there’ll going to be a few more double evictions and a lot more drama.

Big Brother Australia Fans and Former Stars Are Divided on the New 2023 Format

While fans eagerly started tagging their friends on social media to urge them to apply, some aren’t sure they’re keen on where the show seems to be headed.

While Johnson thought a new concept was “cheeky”, 2022 winner Reggie wrote: “Wow this is interesting…🧐.”

Three 2020 housemates — Sarah McDougal, Hannah Campbell and Kieran Davidson — begged Big Brother to let them back into the competition.

Their former co-star Angela Clancy just seems keen to watch the drama unfold, writing: “Mmh yes please 😂 and if you’re in an entanglement also apply. We wanna see mess next year [sic].” Same, girl, same.
