After icon Julie Goodwin was eliminated from the MasterChef Australia 2022 kitchen, she revealed three MAJOR behind-the-scenes things that have changed between 2009 and now.

ICYMI: Julie was sent home during the July 5 episode of the hit series due to burning the bottom of a sticky date pudding. However, she was gracious in her exit, even saying she was glad to pass the torch to the next generation of cooks. Aww!

In a new interview with Yahoo!, the 51-year-old revealed some stark differences to her second run, which ultimately persuaded her to don another white apron.

First up, Julie admitted that “these days” you were “actually allowed to have your phone”, which made for a “better experience”.

“Not in the studio when we’re filming, but you’re allowed to have your phone at night,” she said.

“We had a lot more contact with our families, and without that, I would have said ‘no’. If I knew I was leaving the contact of my family for six months, I could not have done that, and I would not have done that.”

The Housing Situation In MasterChef Australia Changed from 2009 to 2022

As for where the contestants lived during filming, previously, the cast stayed in a share house — much like many of the other reality TV shows at the time.

Now, they get the privilege of being in their own rooms or sharing with just one other person.

“We were in a shared apartment building,” she told the outlet. “But we all had our own little units. Some shared with one other person, but we all had a bit more space and a bit more privacy.”

During filming, contestants were allowed to leave the share apartments on weekends.

“Even though we hardly went out,” she admitted. “COVID was looming. But that was a massive change for me.”

Julie returned to the MasterChef Australia kitchen thirteen years after first winning the series.

Since then, she has been honest about her battle with mental health and was concerned that she may not weather the storm of another series.

“I just didn’t think I would have the mental strength or the emotional strength to do it,” she told Yahoo!.

But boy are we glad she came back!
