Former NRL player Benji Marshall and TV presenter Darren McMullen will go head-to-head to win big for their chosen charities in the finale of Celebrity Apprentice Australia 2022.

Each of the sixteen celebrities taking part this year has selected causes close to their heart, with Benji electing to support an independent not-for-profit institution, closely affiliated with his former club, the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Souths Cares supports disadvantaged, marginalised and Indigenous youth and families with a specific focus on education, training, health and employment.

Last week alone, Benji raised $20,000 for Souths Cares by winning a challenge.

What Services Does Celebrity Apprentice Star Benji Marshall’s Chosen Charity Souths Cares Provide?

Souths Cares offers interactive workshops focused on health and wellbeing for primary all the way to year 12 students, with topics such as hygiene, mental health, nutrition and how to combat bullying.

They also provide significant support to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander school students in the local government area of Liverpool, including mentoring, before and after school programs, career planning, vocational training and support services to help students complete school.

Why is Souths Cares So Important To Celebrity Apprentice’s Benji Marshall?

Benji has a history of supporting Souths Cares, last year hosting a fundraising event for their Nanga Mai Marri (Dream Big) division, which focuses on supporting indigenous high school students to develop high aspirations for their education and employment.

He even offered up his last ever match-worn South Sydney Rabbitohs Grand Final Jersey as a prize the event.

When announcing his role on Celebrity Apprentice, Benji explained that the Rabbitohs allowed him to “see first hand the amazing work [Souths Cares] does”.

But Benji has a much closer connection to Souths Cares than just his former Football Club.

During his stint on Celebrity Apprentice, Benji recalled being on the playground at school where children would tease him because he didn’t know who his father was, as he was raised by his young mother alone.

“I would sit there in the playground crying because I felt different to everyone else,” he said on the show.

With these experiences in mind and now a father-of-two, Benji clearly wanted to make a difference for other children in his community.

On Instagram, Benji also explained he was “super proud” to support the charity and share more about his personal story.

“I shared things I have never spoken about before and I am proud to share my emotions and true feelings publicly. Vulnerability is a strength. The feedback has been overwhelming. I appreciate everyone [sic],” Benji said.
