They may be testing their friendship on Celebrity Apprentice Australia 2022, but back in 2019, KIIS FM radio hosts Will McMahon and Woody Whitelaw went viral after a very important on-air conversation showed the true meaning of mateship.

In a video posted to their Facebook for R U OK? day in 2019, the co-hosts got candid during an emotional conversation about depression.

Will, who was diagnosed with depression five years prior to the video, asked Woody how he deals with working with a co-host who is battling mental illness.

“I try to, as early as possible, make sure that I’ve got the mindset of, ‘It’s nothing that you’ve done, as in me,’” Woody said. “To talk really candidly, when you are in a dark spot it can at times feel like you’re angry at me. I try to see the depression as opposed to seeing you, I know that sounds a bit weird, but that does help me.”

Through tears, Will recalled a moment when he had been feeling low and had taken it out on several of his co-workers.

He told his Celebrity Apprentice co-star, “You don’t know I heard this…I’d obviously pissed off a whole bunch of people … and I walked out, and I could hear you in there saying to everyone, ‘It wasn’t me,’ and you wanted everyone to just forgive me for how I’d been and what I’d said.”

“I know how many bosses you’ve talked off a ledge because of how I’ve been,” he said, thanking Woody for his support.

“That’s a really scary part of having a mental illness is you hate the way you treat people when you’re like that.

“It’s really key that you find people like you. It takes real strength to stay with people when they’re like that. I wanted to say thanks.”

Woody Offered Up Advice On How to Help a Friend Who Is Struggling

Following Will’s candour, he asked his mate what advice he would give to others that are scared of having a difficult conversation with a friend who has a mental illness.

“It’s not about trying to fix it,” Woody said. “Take a baby step and start with a message like, ‘Hey, how are you going?’
